GENRE'S
There are different genre's of writing, including fiction, nonfiction, biographies,
history, historical novels, historical romance novels, romance novels, science
fiction novels. Fiction is the most difficult to write and the most difficult to get
published. The fiction novel is straight out of the writers imagination with some
truth woven into the plot. We all draw from life experiences when we write. Most
writers have good memories and notice things other non writers would not. Writers
can also draw on past emotions to empathize with their main characters; sort of
walking a mile in their shoes.

Non fiction does not sell as well as fiction. It requires a lot of research
and time. There are laws of privacy and copyright that must be heeded. A
non fiction book can take years to write and then there are no guarantees
of it being bought by a publisher unless the writer is already published,
maybe even in another genre altogether.
Biographies also take a very long time to write. If they are official
autobiographies the person being written about must have some say so
in the way information about them is written.
I personally love history and history novels. These are not big money
makers but most writers never become rich and famous. A great many of
the history books are written by academics who teach history in college
or high school. They spent many years studying their subject and are
researchers in their own right.
Historical novels are a bit different. They can be about real people
leading imaginary lives thought up by the author. These are usually set in
a certain time period and a clear setting is put forth by the writer.
Many people love historical romance novels. These are best sellers
along with romance novels of fiction. A lot of money can be made by the
authors of this type novel if they can get a publisher to publish their first
book.
Religious novels are very popular and usually have a love story woven in
the context. They usually have a happily ever after ending and the good
guy, woman always wins and learns a lesson to be shared with everyone.
We all know who the master of science fiction writing is. I think this might
well be the hardest genre. It takes a great deal of imagination and is not
often based on true happenings. I think the masters of this genre live
what they are writing at the time and the world they are writing about
opens up to them. These type books sell like hot cakes if they are
published. Please check the following site for some interesting
information about Science Fiction writing. http://www.sfsite.com/isfdb/
Ever heard of the Nancy Drew mystery series? Ever heard of Mildred
Wirt? This remarkable lady did ghost writing for many of the Nancy Drew
books. Her personal life is a true life adventure. She wrote over one
hundred books in her lifetime. She is still living and still doing articles for
the Toledo Blade. These books are for children but I am sure many
adults have read them. Do you think you could be a good mystery writer?

Poetry is often only thought of something a person has to suffer through
in high school and college. Not many of the current writers of poetry are
as famous as the long dead ones. I believe there is still a great audience
for poetry in this country and the world. The internet has made it possible
for so many struggling poets to put their works before the pubic. Some of
it is very bad poetry and some is extremely good. I hope to help you get
your poetry published both on the internet and in print.
Ever hear of a Graphic Novel? I am sure you have heard of Sin City by now. It is a
graphic novel, which is a very long comic book type novel told mostly in pictures.
Some very good descriptions and examples can be found here.

There are some very good graphic novel sites on the internet. Try the following
sites for some good links and information about many of the most popular novels.

links to publishers who specialize in this type of fiction. There is a lot more than
meets the eye in this genre.
I am sure you have heard of The Crow by James O'Barr. His graphic novel was
made into a major motion picture by the same name. On his web page
http://www.thecrow.info/granovel.htm you will find out a great deal more about
him and his work.
There are a thousand thoughts lying within a man that he does not know till he takes up a pen to write. -William Makepeace Thackeray, novelist (1811-1863)
