Did you know eight journalists have been killed while reporting from
Afghanistan? That is more than the number of
soldiers killed to date. Pray there are no more fatalities of either in the dangerous days ahead for the military. They
will be combing the hills and caves at Tora Bora looking for any remaining
Al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden.

If you watched the crystal ball for 2002 fall down from its pinnacle  on a building in Times Square, you already know
that the names of all the NYC firemen and women, policemen and women, EMT's, and persons names from 13
foreign countries  were engraved on the metal part of the ball. They are gone but not forgotten.

A resupply helicopter crashed over the weekend in Northern Afghanistan. Two marines were killed and five others
were wounded. The bodies of the two fallen marines arrived at  a base in  Germany earlier today. They were 22 and
24 years old.

January 22, 2002

I reported that one of the marines was 22 years old. This is incorrect. They were 24 and 26 years of age.

A memorial service was held today for the two marines who were killed while on a resupply mission in Northern
Afghanistan. Their fellow marines attended the solemn service at the base in
Kandahar, Afghanistan. The victims are
Staff Sgt. Walter F.

The
Wall Street Journal's Daniel Pearl, who was abducted January 23, 2002, was declared dead by our
government today.  The FBI was sent a video of his brutal death. He was said to be a kind and gentle man who
loved to play the violin.  He was thought of very highly by his peers and friends. He was a man who sought
understanding and ways to help bring peace to all areas of the globe. His very gracious wife, Mariane, is expecting
their first child.

A

eventually be six hundred sixty military personnel based in the Philippines to help train Philippine soldiers in the fight
