Memorial Day 2005
To Remember You

I do this to remember each of you, all who died
to defend our country and the freedom of the
world and all who are still fighting. Come home
safe!
The Old Guard placed the flags on graves at
Arlington National Cemetery, one soldiers foot
away from the headstones.

They have big shoes to fill.

Soldiers and generals from every war lie
beneath the well groomed grass of  Robert E
Lees' old home place, high on the shore of the
river.

The headstones are aligned to be straight to
the eye, in any direction. Every inch put to use
and soon to be expanded by seven acres.

So many good men and women gone off to
war, never to return to their families. The ones
left behind are waiting, waiting, waiting.

Return to them safe and sound, whether whole
or not. Your loved ones are waiting, waiting,
waiting for you.

Even we who do not know you are waiting,
waiting, waiting.

Come home, come home, it's supper time and
you are home at last.
